get ready for the launch(es)

so feadz tonight yeah? i wrote about some of my favourite ed banger tracks over on the all-new transmission blog which launches officially tonight.

something else that launches tonight is the new schizofonics ep, eightyeight, which i’ve been championing since first hearing it back in december. get down to the bernard shaw later for a set from the mighty nic james, as well as a special a/v set from the schizo boys.

krashed out

still no internet at home – blogging at work. yeesh. last night at krash was a lot of fun, as usual. someone spotted that panda bear remix – what a dude. i was happy that a few people asked “what’s this track?!” while i was playing schizofonics. tellin’ ya, they’re headed for great things.

next on the list is transmission tomorrow night – it’ll be a special one, as quigo and i are going b2b for the last 45 minutes or so. we’re thinking lots of energy and lots of tunes that’ll put a smile on your face.

krashing the party

last night was my second time playing krash in wax with colin perkins. there was a vibrant and appreciative crowd, so it was a good night to play. i had decided earlier in the day to play a new remix of modjo’s lady, but alas it went down like a proverbial lead balloon. the floor emptied. it was a nice challenge though – i had to build it up again from scratch. i remember years ago reading that apparently in his early days sharam used to get told off by promoters/club owners for being so good that clubbers wouldn’t leave the floor and go to the bar. i don’t think i’m quite at that stage yet 😉 it was nice to play stickin’ and amsterdam for the first time, two awesome tracks that i haven’t had the chance to play yet. both went off.

funnily, when i went to the toilet after my set i could hear colin bringing in da funk – i rushed back and asked “which remix?” “schizofonics” was the reply. boom. 2010 is going to be a schizofonic year – mark my words.

DJ Mehdi – Pocket Piano (Joakim Remix)
Major Lazer – Keep It Going Louder (Tom Stevens Remix)
La Roux – Quicksand (Boy 8-Bit Remix)

Daft Punk – Da Funk (Schizofonics Rework)
SonicC – Stickin
Röyksopp – What Else Is There? (Trentemøller Remix)
Modjo – Lady (Taped & Zagross Bootleg)
Joe and Will Ask? – Fabric of Win
Bag Raiders – Fun Punch (Jokers of The Scene Remix)
Cubic Zirconia – Fuck Work (Dances With White Girls Remix)
Jennifer Delano – Amsterdam (RipTidE Found the Spot Remix)
Fever Ray – Seven (Crookers Remix)

let’s hope it’s a good one

so my first new year’s eve spent anywhere other than someone’s house or a starbucks (long story) was pretty crazy. schizofonics rocked a transmission crowd through the midnight shift, and myself and jon averill kept things going before hystereo and shit disco brought the proceedings to a close. the insane sight that was dublin’s streets almost entirely bereft of taxis was compounded by the ice-rink-like quality of the city’s pavements – drunken revellers were lucky not to fall over as they warily made their way home. i myself had to grab on to lamp posts and even a bridge at points in order to escape the cruel hand of gravity. town tonight was like some sort of post-apocalyptic nightmare, as city-dwellers and the unlucky few who found themsleves working tonight shuffled gingerly across roads like cold-stricken zombies.

if i didn’t have to do it myself it’d be hilarious.

anyway – this is kind of pretty much what i played last night – jon also played (at the very least) some old school rave, a-trak’s heads will roll remix and star guitar somewhere in between all of this. want to do more b2b sets now!

Simian Mobile Disco – Hustler
Spank Rock – Bump (Switch Remix)
Erol Alkan & Boys Noize – Death Suite (DJ Mehdi Simple Acid Edit)
Arcade Fire – Rebellion (Lies)
Boys Noize – Oh! (A-Trak Remix)
Surkin – White Knight Two
The Rapture – House of Jealous Lovers
Daft Punk – Crescendolls
Fake Blood – Fix Your Accent
Tiga – Hot In Herre
Empire of The Sun – Walking On A Dream (Treasure Fingers Remix)

(jack) beats staying in

wowsers. last night was pretty insane. probably the biggest crowd i’ve ever seen at transmission. jack beats absolutely wrecked things. so so good. i arrived to find i was coming on after the little-known jon averill – so no pressure there!

i kinda tried to keep things pretty upbeat, but without going too hard into either obscurity or heavy bangers. think i did ok – special shouts go to schizofonics and chaos dans le cbd – both of their tracks went off.

also – jan driver‘s rat alert as football style singalong – who knew?!

Boy 8-Bit – Baltic Pine
Alan Braxe & Fred Falke – Intro
Lykke Li – I’m Good. I’m Gone (Fred Falke Remix)
Chromeo – Needy Girl (Lifelike Remix)
MGMT – Of Moons, Birds And Monsters (Holy Ghost! Remix)
White Girl Lust – Blood
Jan Driver – Rat Alert
Major Lazer – Keep It Going Louder (Tom Stevens Remix)
Dances With White Girls – Everyone’s Got To Make A Living
Fully Fitted – 50 Ways
Armand van Helden – Playmate (ft Lacole ‘Tigga’ Campbell & Roxy Cottontail)
Schizofonics – 88
Chaos Dans Le CBD Feat. Tommie Pickles – Tesh & Maccas (Original Mix)
The Chemical Brothers – Star Guitar (Pete Heller’s Expanded Mix)
Myd – Train to Bamako

gravity rides everything

wow i’ve been pretty busy this past while. working has actually taken it out of me more than i had anticipated. not that i’m complaining – having a job is great, especially at a time like this.

i went to see modest mouse on tuesday, and boy did they put on a good show. the setlist was great – as far as i was concerned they kind of went 50/50 in terms of stuff i knew and stuff i didn’t. there was one song i’d been hoping to hear which they skipped, but that’ll happen at every gig so i’m not too mad. plus i saw them play it before so grand like. the gig was followed by some late pints in sin é with the good people from fuzzy logic (if you haven’t yet, you should check it out), lots of chats about jim morrison and jack kerouac and other such things.

the next morning i was woken up by the postman ringing the doorbell – he was delivering, among other things, my drop the lime 12″, with added classixx remix, as arranged by nialler9. so kudos to niall and the bacardi b-live family. i’m in the process of ripping it now, though i think i may have got the speed wrong….

this week i’ve been lucky enough to get some great stuff in my inbox. top of the list is the remix package for myd‘s train to bamako. i’ve been loving his work ever since i first heard the original track back in august, and the remixes do their best to add something new while keeping the manic tribal flair of the original intact. my favrouite is from monsieur monsieur, who recently won the peanuts club remix competition. ones to watch i’d say. for your pleasure i offer you the canblaster remix. also the artwork is the maddest and coolest thing i’ve seen in some time. the package is available at trackitdown.

finally major props to my boy bobby analog – he’s just moved down south to melbourne – jealous or what. after perfecting the art of discofied remixes, he’s moved onto darker and angrier things – i mean this track is called st. kilda bass…. it’s a banger.

Myd – Train to Bamako (Canblaster Remix)
Bobby Analog – St. Kilda Bass

ps watch out for the 88 ep from schizofonics next year. runnnnnnnnnnnin tings.

early top 10

i fear some of these charts may be getting a bit repetitive – but hey, i’m just repping what i love you know. glass house is slowly working its way up my tunes of the year list, may well be at the top by december. as for that hell track – yeah there’s been some controversy, but the remix package is to die for. radioslave wins for the sheer balls of making a motherf*ckin’ 28 minute version for the two motherf*ckers that understand it. i’m one of them 😉

1 Eli Escobar – Glass House
2 Kid Sister – Right Hand Hi (Kingdom Remix)
3 Erol Alkan & Boys Noize – Death Suite (DJ Mehdi Simple Acid Edit)
4 Jokers of the Scene – Baggy Bottom Boys (Original Mix)
5 The Count & Sinden – Mega (Schizofonics Remix)
6 Hugg & Pepp – Sweet Rosie (Turbo Edit)
7 Hell ft. P. Diddy – The DJ (Radio Slave Remix)
8 Jay-Z Feat. Rihanna – Run This Town (Fake Blood 1 Minute Mash)
9 Yazoo – Situation (US 12” Mix)
10 Model 500 – Night Drive (Time, Space, Transmat)
