the world cup may be over (¡viva españa!) but south africa lives on. desmond & the tutus are a pretorian group that deal in some sort of indie rock/kwela pop hybrid. in 2008 they had a release on tigersushi. their latest release comes from bad panda records, the free-download netlabel that releases a new creative commons-licensed song every monday. this one is called high fives. it starts off sounding like an african riddim and then morphs into a summertime pop jam. lead singer shane likes cornflakes, beirut, the riet river, and his wife’s blog.
go here for a special high five from the band.
