what’s my name?!

fakeblood

fake blood, fake blood. i guess he needs to introduction, and he’s been blogged to death, but hey i’m going to talk about him anyway. you know he does that thing in his remixes where he cuts up the original track to make it sound like the artist is saying fake blood? at the field day afterparty i heard him play a track which had a fake blood drop that sounded like it was created just out of noise. no vocals. no idea what it was though. for now, these are my favourites. you could say the calvin harris drop is a bit lazy, making use as it does of harris saying “blood” – but he’d be a fool to do it any other way!

in the run up to electric picnic, preparation wise, you could do a lot worse than check out the man’s essential mix from last march. most essential mixes are heavy going – two hours of pounding, pummelling beats can be a lot to take – so fake blood did it a little differently. he banged it out in hour one, before taking things to a different level – afterpaty style.

Fake Blood – Essential Mix (2009-03-14) (link from Ulterior Music)

hour 1 is a barrage of straight up wonk with a couple of carefully chosen acappellas (disco! 909!). within the first 15 minutes he had my head ready to explode with that incredible style of eye remix of vv brown, and it just keeps going and going until you can’t take any more. but that’s ok because all of a sudden you’re taken outside, down the street and into a dirty afterparty.

the opening track of the mix’s second half almost sounds like a tech-house reworking of vangelis’ blade runner music. one could say it’s not as out there as it might be – it’s four-four all the way, just not the four-four his current fans might be used to – but it’s bleepy and bloopy in all the right ways. it has moments of grandeur, moments of beauty, moments of angry heavy noise, in other words it’s just like most afterparties.
