next week’s hero
04/08/2009 · Leave a Comment

resident advisor really know who to pick for their podcasts. whether it’s someone with worldwide clout like richie hawtin or underworld, or up-and-coming heroes such as aeroplane, every week they hit the spot with an hour or two of delightful tunes. this week it’s graeme clark aka the revenge. i’ve never heard of him, but then again, this time last year i’d only heard one aeroplane track so who knows where he’s headed?

field day mix
29/07/2009 · Leave a Comment

so ahead of field day i was going to do a rundown of the acts i’m excited about seeing, but instead i threw a mix together with some of these acts. it’s far from exhaustive – i can’t say i’m familiar with every act on the lineup – but it features a breadth of styles and is hopefully somewhat representative of what’s on offer. there are a couple of drastic shifts in mood, which all (hopefully) make sense from a tonal point of view, but also capture the feeling of leaving one act and seeing another completely different performance on a different stage. or not
either way, i hope you enjoy.
Juana Molina – Micael
Santigold – L.E.S. Artistes (XXXChange Remix)
Little Boots – Stuck On Repeat (Album Version)
Sébastien Tellier – Kilometer (Aeroplane ‘Italo 84′ Remix)
Seth Troxler – Hurt (feat. Matthew Dear)
Audion – Just A Man
The Juan MacLean – Happy House (Matthew Dear vs Audion Remix)
Mystery Jets – Two Doors Down
Calvin Harris – Ready For The Weekend (Fake Blood Remix)
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Zero (Erol Alkan Rework)
Fever Ray – Triangle Walks (Allez Allez Remix)
The Horrors – Scarlet Fields
Delphic – Counterpoint (Delphic’s En Route Mix)
Dance Area – AA247 (Skull Juice Remix 2)
Skream – One For The Heads Who Remember
The Big Pink – Velvet

i hate seeing on twitter that nialler9’s top 10 is already up – it means a) i’m slacking on mine own and b) i can’t read his till mine is done – don’t want ideas being put in my head! anyway i seem to have been doing a bit of digging this week, not that there isn’t awesome new music right now, but i’ve had these tracks on rotation you know. might do a more field day-centred chart later in the week.

it’s friday and i’m a little bored. and it’s gone from dry to thunderstorm to sunny to cloudy in the last 90 minutes. currently listening to to old armand van helden tracks. no this isn’t a nostalgia post, just sayin’
i’m really excited about seeing aeroplane at field day next week. it’s just a dj set but still, they make great music and listen to great music so i think i’ll enjoy it. here’s a funny interview with one of them from dummy magazine:
Do you feel emotional when you play?
Sure! Life is about emotions! But not only good ones unfortunately.
asian dan has a link to their june mix, and i guess their set next week will follow a similar path. i hope so anyway. i guess it’s my mix for this weekend.
another act i’m really excited about seeing is final fantasy. i had the pleasure of seeing him three nights in a row (kind of) in december 2007, but haven’t seen him since. i gather his galway show last month was pretty spectacular, so i’m expecting a lot. maybe a new random cover or something.
